The USA, Russia, Turkey and all imperialist forces, out of Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and the Middle East!
Iran, China, Saudi Arabia, Israel, hands off Syria! Defeat of Islamic fundamentalism and the Al Assad government. Self-determination for the Syrian and Kurd peoples
Once again Donald Trump bombed Syria under false pretenses, and British and French imperialism helped the US in the unprovoked attack.
This time the excuse was the supposed use of chemical weapons by Assad’s government in a Damascus district where the opposition was already defeated. The US government, as usual, presented zero evidence.
The real issue is that Donald Trump’s government launched itself into an inter-imperialist collision course with Russia, China and the BRICS in Syria with his missile attacks serving as a warning against US competitors´ worldwide expansion.
Bombing a country which represents no threat to the US is also a convenient way to divert the public’s attention away from his administration’s legal battles over criminal activities.
His partners in crime, Britain and France, joined the fray for similar reasons. In Britain, Prime Minister May is losing credibility and is surrounded by political problems of which Brexit is but just one of them. Macron´s France in engulfed in a strike wave and escalating confrontations with environmentalists.
A year ago with the excuse of fighting fundamentalist terrorism, Trump sent hundreds of Marines and conventional weaponry to Syria, and later he sent more than 50 tomahawk missiles against one of Assad’s air bases.
In this year’s bombings, both the US and France used more sophisticated, and more expensive missiles.
The sending of Marines, artillery, and missiles were all done without consulting Congress, or without asking anyone for its approval, including Syria and its opponents. It is an illegal, criminal, and irresponsible act whose consequences will be paid by Syrians, North Americans and the peoples of the Middle East.
This conflict has its roots in Syria’s strategic location for the transport of gas and petroleum, mostly coming from Iran but also its own domestic production to Europe. More importantly, Syria’s strategic positioning for the control of the Middle East is about stopping China, Russia and their allies with whom Trump has unleashed a diplomatic and trade war.
The economic rivalry between Syria and other US allies such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia plays a role here too. What started out as a civil war has soon turned into an inter-imperialist conflagration between the US and the BRICS, with Turkey and Iran defending their own interests, and Saudi Arabia and Qatar doing the same while they defend and provide resources for Islamic fundamentalism.
Israel keep its hands free for its own expansion over Palestine, and other parts of the Middle East, while at the same time promoting attacks against Syria and channeling weapons and military intelligence in order to contribute to Assad’s downfall. All of this occurring while avoiding a direct clash with Islamic fundamentalism which is extremely hostile towards Israel.
It is a war and a multilateral imperialist intervention which has unleashed a humanitarian catastrophe. Tens of thousands killed, cities and towns destroyed. Syrians are refugees in their own or nearby countries and more than a million have left to Europe.
This is the mirror in which humanity should look at itself. This is the future of violence, war, and the inter-imperialist confrontations they are unleashing over us. Now in drops, this nightmare will gush over us all sooner that we think possible—if we do not stop it in its tracks.
We call on the working classes and the peoples of the US, China and Russia to defeat their own imperialist bourgeoisie and their war and expansionist plans. The future of humankind now depends on them.
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), 4.8 million have fled to Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt and Iraq, and 6.6 million are internally displaced within Syria. Meanwhile about one million have requested asylum to Europe. Germany, with more than 300,000 cumulated applications, and Sweden with 100,000, are EU’s top receiving countries.
The economy in wide regions of Syria is destroyed.
The development of a broad and powerful anti-war movement is necessary and imperative. A movement that demands the immediate withdrawal of foreign troops from Syria, particularly those from imperialist nations like the US and Russia, and an international embargo against the flow of weapons to any and all factions involved in the Syrian war.
It is essential that all major left organizations around the world find means to defeat their own imperialism and help defend groups and popular sectors that can fight both Islamic fundamentalism and the Assad government—a dynasty of dictators.
We support the right of self-determination and the Kurdish people’s right to a national territory in the areas of Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Syria and other countries and regions where they live.
Several left and liberal groups and parties have declared their support for the Assad dictatorship, using the argument that it is the lesser of two evils in comparison with Islamic fundamentalism. But with that they fuel the foreign intervention on all sides of the conflict.
The Syrian dictatorship has a 50-year-long history of anti-worker policies, repression against any opposition, the destruction of any vestiges of left organization, and ethnic and national oppression of internal minorities and after the 911 terrorist attacks in New York it was a direct agent of Washington detaining and torturing prisoners captured by the United States in Afghanistan.
The war, with its uncontrolled violence, has erased any substantial differences between Assad and his internal opponents, and Islamic fundamentalism. All sides, during the civil war and now the inter-imperialist conflict, have violated every existing human right, massacred civilian, tortured prisoners, and played the role of pawns for one imperialism or another.
We call to fight for the following program:
All Russian and American imperialist forces and their allies out of Syria. Down with Turkey’s expansionist plans, and for the military and political defeat of Islamic fundamentalism. Embargo against all arms sent to the Syrian conflict.
Massive and immediate international aid to address the humanitarian catastrophe. Protection and asylum for all war refugees. For a Socialist Federation of all oppressed nations and peoples of the Middle East!
